At breakfast today I finally find some good coffee!
We finish packing and the head down to check out. The girl on the desk doesn’t ask how our stay was and I’m guessing it's because she can probably guess our answer. It’s a little bit wet again this morning so with our umbrellas up we walk to the train station. We are going to Topography of Terror this morning so we get the train to Potsdamer Platz (it’s about a 5 minute walk from here) just as we arrive there is a huge coach load of tourists arriving so the first part of this museum is super busy. The museum was brilliant, we left it for today as the weather was supposed to be wet, but I wish we had done it when we had more time! We spent about 2 hours here but could have easily spent 4 hours. It tells you about the Gestapo, SS and Reich Security Main Office on Wilhelm- und Prinz-Albrecht-Straße and there is a huge amount of documents about the crimes that were organised there. And a timeline of photographs that illustrate the history from the time the Nazis took power until the end of the war.
After we left the museum, around the corner was ‘curry at the wall’ so I had the vegan currywurst again which was delicious! We walk to the mall to get a final Lindt hot chocolate (our fav) but the Mall of Berlin’s doors were all open and you could go inside however all the shops (including the lindt shop) were closed on a Sunday… In fact we then went to the Christmas market and this was also closed! Worth noting if you are looking to book you might not want a full day on the Sunday.
As there is nothing really open we quickly pop into McDonald’s for a muffin, hot drinks and some chips to get some food inside us. There is a homeless man who was here the other day we went in as well, he was collecting the McDonalds monopoly stickers, so we left ours and both at the same time we said “we will see on the news that he won millions on it with our last sticker”
With everything shut we head to the airport. The train was fairly easy and we only had to wait about 15 minutes. The journey takes about 40 minutes and when we depart we realise that we have not had our tickets checked a single time, it seems very trusting to have no barriers and no ticket checkers on the trains. We honestly could have saved 30 euro and not got a weekly pass!
We have a while to wait at the airport before we then head to board our plane, the flight home was a little bit turbulent (which always happens as soon as I go to the loo) but it felt very quick and we were soon descending into London Gatwick and touching down on the runway.
